The Book of Lost Things

Two days ago I stared reading The Book of Lost Things, by John Connolly, and the fact that I devoured 200+ pages in the first day of reading it is a testament to the power of the novel. Driving you forward with a mix of familiar, archetypal plot elements and originality, The Book of Lost Things chronicles a boy's journey into an unnamed land, where the true nature of fairy tales is revealed. Filled with surprsing amounts of violence and gore, the book strays from being a book suited for young children. Indeed, the fantastical elements of the story (a parallel world filled with monsters, harpies, and wolves striving to be man) seem to be aimed at the adult reader, testing the mature mind's ability to find truth in fictional stories.

As this is my first blog post, I will say a little about myself. I am passionate about books in a way that is hard to explain. Whatever I may be doing, I probably rather be reading. Books are constantly on my mind; I always have at least one on me, even when I don't expect to find time to read. For the first time this past summer, I started a list of the books I read. Previously, I tried to just save my books and use my bookshelves as a record of my reading. I will post the list soon!
