I finished Good Omens today! I absolutely LOVED it! It was funny and insightful, with wonderful characters that stood out of the pages and dialogue to die for. It was an easy read, but the message is true and timeless. In Good Omens, the Apocalypse has finally come! But who really wants to see an end to this world, with all it's perfect imperfections? Certainly not Aziraphele or Crowley, creatures from Heavan and Hell who have grown a certain fondness for the people they were sent to fiddle around with. Aziraphale is an angel and Crowley is a demon, but their time here on earth has changed them so that they resemble regular mortals. In a nutshell, Pratchett and Gaiman have hilariously made the point that nobody is lucky enough to be born with clear-cut labels of Good and Evil. Except, maybe we're the lucky ones after all. Having a choice in everything we do, is it not that much more beautiful when a person decides to help out a fellow man? Doing good just because you are made to is not as difficult or rewarding as doing the right thing because you want to. Likewise, fooling around and yielding to certain impulses is only human nature. Furthermore, is it not true that any action, good or bad, can have unexpected outcomes? The bottom line is that free will might result in pollution and anger and hate, but it also gives the world plenty of goodness.
Now, for the first time in months, I have nothing to read! Any suggestions on a book? Also, check out my new The Avid Reader page to see more about why I named the blog as I did! Till next time.
I live to read and haven't been without a book since middle school. I am an English Major and hope one day to be an editor, a critic, a publisher, or even own a book store. As long as I am surrounded by books, I'm happy. I decided to make this blog as a way for me to share all the wonderful books I read with anybody who cares to join me :)
