I've been enjoying my blog more than I thought I would! I spent my morning updating My Library (link below posts), cataloging my bookshelves for you all to browse.
I reached part 2 in The Green House but realized I was a little confused on some characters. I wrote out a list for myself to clarify those that were connected and confusing and decided it wouldn't be a bad idea to share this, too.
Bonifacia: taken from her native village by nuns, worked in mission, kicked out after she let pupils escape in the middle of the night. At one point she becomes involved with Lutima but she gets pregnant and later becomes a prostitute.
Fushia: once worked for Don Julio in illegal rubber trading, was forced to flee after getting caught. Also cheated Don Fabio. Julio gets off clear but stays with Lalita, Fushia's girlfriend. She later runs away back to F.
Don Julio: really rich, somehow knows Benefacia, deals in rubber trade; bandits taking business away
Don Fabio: close with the missionary nuns, Governor of Nieva
Lituma, Monk, Josephino, José: cousins/brothers/friends, very close except Lituma and Josephino had fall out because of Bonifacia. Lituma left disgraced after going to prison? Returns. Lituma was a Sergeant in Borja's garrison when he meets Bonifacia as hisbpotential wife.
Don Anselmo: came to Puria out of nowhere, eventually built the Green House. Rides a black horse and is wonderful at the harp.
Nieves: Pilot, captured into army, escapes army after he, a porter, and a Corporal go to a native village, rob the villagers and get attacked. Also worked for the army when Bonifacia lets pupils escape. Runs into Fuschia and Lalita, eventually runs off with Lalita when Fuschia mistreats her too often. They eventually give Bonifacia to Sergeant Lituma.
Corporal Delgado asks Captain for 3-week leave from Army to visit family, but on the way (takes Nieves and porter) they stop at Urakusa village and rob them when they find they are gone. Jum attacks Corporal. Later returns with Captain to find out if Nieves really deserted or if he was murdered by Indians.
Places: Iquitos, Nieva, Urakusas, Chicais
I live to read and haven't been without a book since middle school. I am an English Major and hope one day to be an editor, a critic, a publisher, or even own a book store. As long as I am surrounded by books, I'm happy. I decided to make this blog as a way for me to share all the wonderful books I read with anybody who cares to join me :)
Wow caro que chulo te esta quedando! I will Lovel to read like you so i will have the benefits of ur comments!
ReplyDeleteOye pero en serio, que chulo te ha ido con este here blog. Aunque mi ingles no sirve pa na, me interesa leer La Casa Verde, q emocion, q suspenso, q scary!
ReplyDeleteIn all seriousness though, this character breakdown is extremely helpful: all the DOn's are defined as seperate entities, and all the defined ladies help add a nice round context to the reader who hasn't been fortunate enough to read The Green House yet. Fuego!
